"Punny" Book Club Overview

The "Punny" Book Club is not your ordinary book club. It breaks the mold by introducing children (6-12 year-olds), to two exciting book categories; advanced picture books and chapter books with themes that are humorous, adventurous and just plain fun. The book club was created by Lavaille Lavette with lots of support and input from Hazel Red, Helen Williams, Ricky Anderson, Rushion McDonald and of course Steve Harvey and Roopster Roux. Books are selected by a committee that consists of teachers, librarians, school district administrators, students and parents. Red One Productions and The Just Help Foundation oversee the book club’s components.

Kids can join The "Punny" Book Club online and receive an Official Club Card, Books, Give- A -Ways and more. Educators, parents and students can also form their very own "Punny" book club.

Television Shorts

Author Lavaille Lavette hosts the Punny Book Club featuring Steve Harvey and Roopster Roux along with young members of the Punny Book Club. The selected books are for children’s between the ages of 6 to 12. The segments focus on one specific children's book and include lively entertaining discussions, suggested activities related to the story and its themes, tips for parents and teachers on how to read/share the story with their children. (The television shorts will air weekly beginning in the Spring, 2008)

"Punny" Book Club Goals:

• Improve children's communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills;
• Increase the time children spend reading for pleasure and talking about books with peers;
